PROJECT OVERVIEW
Client: Sunbelt Rentals Ltd
Location: Pomeroy Street
RENEWABLE ENERGY INTEGRATION
Sunbelt Rentals Ltd engaged Task Contract Solutions Ltd to design and implement a renewable energy integration project at its Pomeroy Street site. The project aimed to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and upgrade the facility’s energy infrastructure to support long-term sustainability goals.
OBJECTIVES
To enhance energy resilience and future-proof the Pomeroy Street depot by integrating renewable energy systems, increasing energy efficiency, and transitioning to a fully electric infrastructure.
PROJECT SCOPE
1. Energy Network Association (ENA) Application:
An ENA application was submitted to secure approvals for on-site renewable energy generation, ensuring compliance with grid connection requirements and future scalability.
2. Energy Performance Assessment:
A thorough Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) assessment was conducted to evaluate the building’s current energy efficiency. This provided a baseline for improvements and highlighted opportunities for energy savings.
3. Planning Permissions:
Local authority planning applications were successfully submitted and approved for the installation of solar panels, air-to-air heat pump systems, and battery storage solutions.
4. Construction Design and Management (CDM) Compliance
Task Contract Solutions Ltd was appointed as the Principal Contractor (PC) and Principal Designer (PD) under CDM Regulations 2015, ensuring the project met safety and regulatory standards.
5. Renewable Energy System Design
A custom system was designed, integrating:
Solar panels for renewable electricity generation
Air-to-air heat pumps for efficient heating and cooling
Battery storage to optimise energy usage and reduce grid dependency
The system design was reviewed and approved by Sunbelt Rentals within four weeks of issuing the purchase order.
6. Gas Supply Decommissioning
The gas supply to the Pomeroy Street site was safely decommissioned, enabling a transition to a fully electric, renewable energy-powered infrastructure.
7. Detailed Surveys and Drawings
Comprehensive Civil, Structural, Electrical, and Mechanical surveys were conducted, resulting in precise As-Built drawings to guide construction and future maintenance.
8. Scaffold Design and Installation
A scaffold system was designed and installed, incorporating a mansafe roof light protection system to ensure worker safety during the roof-mounted solar panel installation.
9. Site Setup and Welfare
Dedicated welfare facilities were established to support the workforce throughout the project, maintaining health and safety standards.

GRID SUPPLY UPGRADE
A critical component of the project involved upgrading the site’s electrical grid connection to support increased energy demands and renewable energy integration.
-
The existing 100Amp supply was upgraded to a 200Amp three-phase system.
-
The DNO managed road excavation for grid connection upgrades.
-
Task Contract Solutions Ltd undertook site excavation for ducting and cabling works.
-
Conducted by the DNO to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
-
Task Contract Solutions Ltd completed site backfilling and surface restoration using durable materials.
The DNO restored road surfaces post-installation.
FUTUREPROOFING AND ENERGY RESILIENCE
The renewable energy system was designed with scalability in mind, ensuring the Pomeroy Street site can accommodate future technology upgrades, expanded renewable installations, and additional energy storage capacity. This approach safeguards the site’s energy resilience and aligns with Sunbelt Rentals’ long-term sustainability goals.
OUTCOME
Energy Efficiency Improvements: Significant reduction in energy consumption due to renewable integration and the removal of gas infrastructure.
Carbon Emissions Reduction: Transitioning to solar, battery storage, and heat pumps lowered reliance on fossil fuels.
Enhanced Energy Resilience: Upgraded electrical supply and battery storage ensure uninterrupted operations during peak demands.
Future-Ready Infrastructure: The site is now equipped for future renewable energy advancements and evolving energy requirements.
CONCLUSION
The renewable energy integration project at Sunbelt Rentals, Pomeroy Street, demonstrates a forward-thinking approach to energy management. By partnering with Task Contract Solutions Ltd, Sunbelt Rentals achieved a sustainable, energy-efficient, and resilient infrastructure, setting a benchmark for renewable energy adoption in commercial facilities.
